Hi,
When performing unilateral exercises where one side is stronger than the other, is it best to do the same on the stronger side as the weaker side, use a heavier weight on the stronger side for the same number of reps at the same RPE, or use the same weight on the stronger side but for more reps at the same RPE?
Thanks.
I would not use a heavier weight on the stronger side or do more reps. I would use the same weight and do the same volume across both sides. I wouldn’t worry too much about imbalances in general, though some may benefit from being addressed in specific situations. For example, large discrepancies in hamstring strength seems to correlate with hamstring injury risk in running sports. This isn’t a universal finding though.
