Hey coaches,
Age: 30, No prior back problems (although I’ve torn a muscle belly before)
I had a week off from the Bridge while I was traveling and didn’t have gym access.
I came back this week and decided to repeat the moderate stress week instead of moving onto high stress. First day felt fine, but the day after my hamstrings were so sore that I couldn’t bodyweight squat without discomfort. I didn’t squat on day 2, but continued pressing and rows. By day 3, I felt ready to squat again and was pain free. Started with deadlifts and my warm ups and first work set felt great. My second work set, around rep 3, I started to feel very strange soreness in my back and stopped lifting. It felt very similar to when I tore my muscle belly, except there was no sudden pop/tear/shock etc.
Anyways, by the time I got home, something still felt off. I did some body weight squats and things were okay but back was very sore. I went out with my wife for lunch, walked around etc and felt a little stiff. I sat down to do some work and while sitting there was no pain, but about 2 hours later now that I’m up, the pain is pretty rough. Standing and walking are okay, but occasionally there is a shooting pain in my back while walking and I have to stop all together. Bending over is very difficult and raising my right leg (knee towards chest) is excruciating. I can barely get my foot 6 inches off the ground without my whole back freezing up, but if I try a few times I can get it to go up.
What do?
Also, should I have started back on the low stress week with weight removed? I didn’t feel like 1 week off would have such an impact.
