Templates for non-competitors

Hi, I have a question regarding your templates. I’ve been running your templates for a while now, and I’ve been really enjoying them. So far I’ve run:

-General Strength & Conditioning
-Heavy Light Medium
-Low Fatigue Strength
-The Bridge V1 & V3
-Hypertrophy I

I chose all of these templates, because they all seemed much less specific than pure powerlifting. I’ve already purchased Strength I, but I’m wondering if should even run any of the powerlifting templates, as I have no plans of ever competing. My main goal is general health, so my question is should I even be doing the powerlifting templates or strengthlifting if I have no plans of competing in those sports?

it seems like those templates were specifically made for getting ready for a meet.

If health is my main priority, would it be better to focus on strength and hypertrophy simultaneously, instead of being solely focused on one at a time?

please keep in mind, I’m not one of these guys that can run the same templates over and over again for years on end. I plan on just running as many as would be in line with my goals before I’m forced to find something else.

thanks for your time and all you guys do. I apologize in advance for the book, I just don’t want to be wasting time.

Hey Brad,

I have no problem with non-competitors running a powerlifting-specific program if they enjoy the training, as enjoyment and adherence are two of my biggest goals for people. I don’t think there’s going to be a difference in health trajectory with a block periodization approach, e.g. focused blocks of strength then hypertrophy, but you will likely have to focus on these things at some point in your career to improve.

In short, I’d keep running Strength I if you’re enjoying it. If you aren’t, you can certainly move to a less specific template!
