Thoughts about switching to Sumo from Conventional as my comp DL

I’m currently running the 4 day ISF Template and I chose sumo deadlifts as my secondary deadlift for the first block. I ran a template (Strength 1) with sumo in the past but it was not as comfortable or as strong as my conventional at that time so I switched back after that. However, this time around it’s already feeling like sumo is significantly easier and the technique feels more natural to me now. I’m only about 5% off of my current conventional numbers (with a belt) and have been doing sumo beltless so I’d expect to pull a little heavier with a belt.

My question is how would you go about switching your primary pull to sumo in the context of the template I’m running? I’m thinking I could switch at the next block of the template (phase 2), but was wondering if it would be better to continue with conventional through the end of the template and then rerun it with sumo as my primary DL?

I understand that in the grand scheme of things what I do probably doesn’t matter in the long run, but I was wondering what your thoughts on this would be. I’m currently floating the idea of trying to find a local meet in the spring if possible (my first meet ever), so wondering if it would be better to switch sooner to get more consistent exposure to the lift before possibly competing. Given that I’ve never competed before, I want to eliminate as many points of stress for the meet so that I can just focus on enjoying the experience instead of whether my DL technique is on point.

As always, thank you for you time and your insight.

Best,
Anthony

You are correct that this decision doesn’t really matter in the big picture / long run. If you would like to compete using sumo, I would make the switch sooner.
