Training after inguinal hernia repair

Hello Doctors,

I previously had bilateral laparoscopic mesh inguinal hernia repairs competed. Unfortunately I still experience pain/pressure after 20 months and have been following up regularly with the surgeon. It sounds like many people recover symptom-free, but not the case for me so far. It also sounds like the rate of recurrence is low; however, it’s tough to self-monitor as the sensation of having a hernia never really went away.

I’ve always used conventional deadlift form, although with a kind of bigger belly and narrow stance I sometimes feel a pressure when setting up at the bar even before lifting. I am wondering if the positioning/wider stance in sumo might make a difference in pressure? I wanted to get some thoughts before casually “just trying it out to see” since there is different technique to learn.

I would be grateful for your thoughts, as well as any additional advice for training after inguinal hernia repair.

Thanks!

You’re in luck, we just did a podcast about this: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…=1000480160443

I don’t think the DL technique likely has much to do with any of this, but you can certainly try it to see if you prefer it.

I’ll check it out - Thanks!
