Training after mole removal

Hi,

I am getting a suspicious mole removed on my lower back in about 2 weeks. It’s rather small but new.

How should I go about training afterwards? The doctor said that I should not do exercises that put tension on my lower back for about 2 weeks afterwards. What is your take on this? Is 2 weeks off really needed?

This isn’t a situation where it is necessary to abstain from activity/training altogether; for example you can likely train your upper body movements normally, but outside of this we typically aren’t able to comment on/contradict other clinician’s post-procedural recommendations. There is going to be an individual spectrum of risk vs. benefit in terms of the timing of return to activity. Some individuals may be willing to accept some unknown amount of risk by returning to activity a bit sooner, while others may view it differently.

What risks would be associated with returning to training after just 1-3 days off?

Depends on the size of the excision and if they stitch it back together, but potentially a rupture of the stitch job and re-opening of the excision site.
