Hello, I recently had a gum graft surgery done because of gum recession and the specialist said to lay off any kind of exercise for an entire week, even just walking around my neighborhood (!) so “my heart rate won’t elevate and prolong/increase swelling and increase complications”. This seems like a very conservative recommendation to mitigate chances of complications to my own detriment, but I suppose if that’s what I gotta do that’s what I gotta do. I’m still consuming about .82 g protein/day mainly with soft foods like dairy/eggs. Is it reasonable to be sedentary for a whole week? He even forbade just pushups and pullups in my house for a couple sets for maintenance volume. I do have the itch to just do a short calisthenics workout after a few days, and it takes awhile for atrophy right? Mainly I’m just bored so otherwise I’ll just play video games or finish a book. He said this is really a time where I just kick my feet up.
Hi,
Unfortunately I don’t have any experience with gum graft surgery or its post-procedural complications, so I am not able to give concrete advice here. However, I would share your skepticism that taking a walk (with any accompanying heart rate elevation) would pose a significant risk here.
