Trigger Thumb woes

Hi, the middle joint on my thumb hasn’t been bendable in three months. At 65 maybe a lifetime of holding guitar picks, wrenches, hammers or barbells has caught up with me. Maybe my bench grip needs padded gloves. I’ve tried holding an ice pack or warm coffee mug on it but it doesn’t help. Oddly enough the only thing that’s allowed it to bend is a full day of using a paint brush. The next morning it’s stiff again. The tendon (?) in my palm is a little tender. It only hurts when I use the remote. Any suggestions ,thank you.

Hi – sorry to hear about this. Unfortunately it’s difficult for us to speculate on a cause, as well as specific treatment recommendations for this via the forum.

It does sound like it “loosens up” with certain forms of use like painting, which is reassuring! This might help inform ideas/strategies for activities to progressively mobilize it. But I think the best way to get more detailed, actionable advice for this situation would be through a consultation with our rehab team.
