Ulnar nerve agitated

Hey docs, I’ve been dealing with a numb pinky and ring finger in my left hand for almost a year now. I think it started when I upped my LBBS and Bench volume/weight. Since then, I’ve switched to front squats and stopped CGBP, tri-ext, and curls. However, the numbness isn’t going away. The lifts lately have been front squats, bench 2x/week, OHP 1x/week, pullups 1x/week and sumo 2x/week. Sitting at a desk/table with my left arm resting on the surface agitates the nerve more, and if I sleep on my side with any bend in my arm it also gets mad.

I’m interested in trying to fix this without surgery, because I’m doing an electrician apprenticeship, and can’t afford a surgical release procedure or being out of work during recovery. Are there squat/press/arm movements that I can do that would cause less nerve compression? Would shortening the ROM, or not locking presses out help? I need to get this figured out because my left hand is prone to cramping up at work now, which isn’t helpful when you’re on top of a 16’ ladder trying to wire stuff. Also, would NSAIDs potentially be helpful here?

Thanks for your time and help!

bump, in case this got missed…

Hey Aaron, apologies in delayed response.

I’d recommend a consult with us given this has been ongoing for year. Contact Us | Barbell Medicine

How old are you?

Are your fingers constantly numb or do you have periodic episodes of relief?

No problem, y’all get a lot of posts around here.

I’m almost 32. Initially, the fingers would get numb, then it would go away and come back. But they’ve been numb for probably a year straight now. I have an appointment to see my PCP in a couple weeks, and am planning on asking his opinion about it as well. As of this week, I’ve stopped benching, pressing, pullups and curls.
