Upper abs cramp after squats

I’ve been noticing my upper abs cramping up after squats.
Should I be doing more core work? I’m not sure what changed I was fine up until the last couple months. I did stop training for a month after a recent surgery.

Not sure that I would advise against doing more training- in this case more trunk work- but I’m not sure if that’s likely to prevent cramping, which is typically fatigue-mediated.

Sounds like you didn’t train for a bit of time and now are getting back into it. If the sensation you’re getting is more painful than than “cramp”, that may need to be investigated, but II wouldn’t worry about a cramp.
