I’m currently helping a girl start her training career and i’ve Into a specific hurdle she has had her galbladder removed and gallstones removed from her vile duct a year later … when she braces for the over head press she complains that the bracing creates pain in her side where her galbladder use to be.
Is is this an issue that warrants stopping training to get checked out or can we just stop using the valsava maneuver ?
Once you lift a sufficiently heavy weight, you can’t “stop” using the valsalva maneuver even if you wanted to. If she had no post-operative complications and is otherwise doing well over a year later without continued symptoms or continued need for continued surgical follow up, this probably isn’t a major issue. If it concerns her enough, she can get it evaluated if it would make her feel more comfortable with training.
