What exactly is shoulder width?

Curious to know, I take it as my heels (not whole foot) as wide as…my shoulders. But Ive seen people with similar builds as mine go with a more narrow stance and even a wider stance. What’s everyone’s take?—-this is in regards to low bar squatting.

My take is it doesn’t matter which of the many possible interpretations of “shoulder width” you use. They all give you an approximate width as a starting point, from which you have to adjust wider or narrower based on considerable individual variability, even among people with the same “shoulder width”. So for that purpose, all reasonable definitions are as good as each other.
