Hi Jordan,
I watched your Vlog 19 on distal biceps tendon rupture and found it interesting and very helpful. I have a concern and I hope you can provide me with some advise.
I ruptured my left arm distal biceps tendon on Dec 2018 and I’m currently at 6 months post op. I lost a lot of muscle and size on the left side of my body during the first 2-3 months of my recovery. I was told not to lift anything using my left arm which was in an arm brace for at least a month, then I started physio using very light weights. I’ve managed to regain some size over the last 3 months once I was able to lift heavier weights. However, my left biceps is still smaller compared to the right one. I’m still afraid to go anywhere close to what I was lifting prior to the rupture for fear of rerupturing the tendon. Im now at about 60-70% of my original working weight. I’ve regained the strength to work my shoulder, back and chest with weights which I used to work with prior to my injury, except for biceps exercises out of fear.
My question is, is it safe to go heavy now after 6 months for biceps? Can I do pull ups now after 6 months post op or should I wait longer? I tried doing pull ups but I felt a slight pull In my left biceps so I stopped.
My left biceps appear to be saggy and soft at the top (near the front delt) and is a little thicker at the bottom near the elbow.
Hope you can help.
Thank you for your time.
Regards
Desmond
