Bench Press is no bueno for the Mrs...

Hello BBM crew,

My wife and I are currently running your Gen’l S&C template. For some reason, my wife has developed a kind of pinching / grinding in her left anterior shoulder and has difficulty in the flat bench. We progressed through the suggested steps in “Pain in Training–What do?”; but nothing seems to help. We reduced load to a 30lb training bar (her BP PR was 130lbs back in April) which she says is ridiculously light and reduced pain levels, but she couldn’t lock out her left arm.

She doesn’t seem to have any problems with high incline bench work and vertical pressing…so I was going to switch to something like that but obviously that option doesn’t exist in the 1* and 2*Horizontal slots. Which exercise might you suggest as a workaround? Just pick something from either of the Vertical Press choices? Thanks in advance for your help and all that you do!!!

Just because it isn’t listed in the slots doesn’t mean you can’t do a particular exercise. Given that she is currently tolerating the high incline or overhead pressing movements better, feel free to sub those into those slots and see if you can gradually work the incline back down over time.
