Dealing with Foot Injury

Hey guys, I had a nasty spill down the stairs yesterday and either have a bad sprain or mild brake on the far left bone in my left foot just behind the ball of my foot. I don’t think it’s a break, because the pain is relatively mild. For example, I can squeeze my foot from the sides without pain. With walking the biggest issue is the swelling creates some discomfort. There is also some mild bruising. I did see the nurse practitioner at my PCP’s office. She didn’t think it was broken either but sent me for an x-ray. Assuming I will hear back M or T next week.

I have three workouts to get in between now and Tuesday pm and, what am I going to do, not train? I’ve tried air deadlifts and air squats and have no issues doing either. Am inclined to just press forward with my workouts as planned. Just concerned about potentially exacerbating an injury. In particular if i got too far forward on either a DL or squat I could have difficulty maintaining balance as my base just isn’t that stable. I do feel some discomfort if I put all my weight on the front of my left foot.

Of course, the nurse practitioner told me to sit on my butt for a week regardless.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Jacks1019 - sorry to hear about the fall. Based on the information you’ve provided here, I’d be ok with you doing activities which don’t directly load the lower extremity (e.g. Larsen press or seated overhead press with the leg kicked out in front of you). Once you have the results of the imaging, then more informed decisions can be made about recommended management and future training.
