Deloading

I want to change up goals for awhile and switch to a hypertrophy focused plan of attack for the foreseeable future. Dr.mike at renaissance periodization suggests a deload every 4-6 weeks while doing this kind of training. Does this seem reasonable to you guys? While training for strength and hybrid training I really only needed to deload every 20 weeks or so and that was for a mental break. I know nothing about bodybuilding focused training so it’s a whole new world to me and must admit I’m not very educated on it.

I do not think that the majority of people will need or should take a deload every 4-6 weeks unless the program isn’t working. Whether dedicating 8-12 weeks a year to deloading makes a difference one way or another is up for debate, but I’d lean towards worse, not better results that way.

We have a couple good bodybuilding templates available on our site with explanatory texts accompanying them. You might dig those. I will say that bodybuilding and strength training have a lot of overlap. Here’s our podcast on it.
