Discomfort hours after resistance training

Hello Austin and Jordan,

I am writing on behalf of my girlfriends dad, some information on him, 54 years old, about 6’0, 190lbs, no known negative health metrics.

He has had a pretty active life, sports as a kid, 2 marathons, 1 half marathon as an adult and periodically since I’ve known him (4 years) he has resistance trained.

Over the last year or so he has mention 2-3 times that hours after resistance training (3-6 hours later) that he experiences lightheadedness if sitting for to long and sharp pain that shoots from his elbow to his armpits. This only occurs several hours after his workout.

Current program, 3 days per week resistance training and 2 days focusing on aerobic exercise. The RT consists of smith machine squats, planks, DB bench press, lat pulldown, seated cable row, biceps curls and tricep pushdowns. He will rotate different variations of these exercises each day, taking each set 2-3 reps shy of failure for 3-5 sets.

Any ideas or resources? Or should I direct him to meet with his doctor?

Thank you for all the free information and resources, I direct family and friends to your forum, YouTube channel and Instagram pages almost on a daily basis and I don’t think what you guys do for health and fitness is appreciated enough! Merry Christmas!

I am not sure I can hazard a guess from here and I’m not sure that this is related to training either. If he’s concerned about it, I would direct him to his primary care physician.

Happy Holidays!
