Extending Training Blocks, Experimenting with Programming

Hey BBM Team,

I am running Powerbuilder 2 for the second time (not in a row but within the last 6 months) and having great results. I am just finishing up week 3 and everything is falling into place, improvements in technique and strength are tangible (i’m on a roll) and it feels like the pivot may be coming up too quick. I’ve been keeping my loading slightly conservative on my comp squat and dead lift which has allowed me to vaoid flare ups of some sensitivities that were nagging me 6 months prior. Would it seem reasonable to repeat the 5th week once or twice and then pivoting as needed? Or could/should I skip the pivot and jump right into the subsequent blocks if my recovery and performance are on point? I feel my conservative loading has kept my accumulated stress at a level where a pivot may not be necessary. If this changes by the end of week 5 I will pivot as scheduled.

Does it seem reasonable to ride-out some of the blocks in your programs like this? Or would you advise direct adherence to the schedule in the templates? I’ve run a number of them strictly without missing sessions or any program alterations, but feel that some experimenting could benefit me at this point in my training. I’ve been training for about 7 years, the last two strictly running BBM programs.

Thanks in advance!

If you are continuing to make progress in performance without undue increases in RPE targets, you can continue to run those blocks longer.

Thanks Austin!

One more question. If a trainee was running this and had previously been used to more intensity and volume for the barbell row, would it be reasonable to experiment with plugging in the same rep/sets as some of the assistance pressing movements from this program in place of the amrap+backoffs? I’ve recently switched to Sumo and feel my back could use more direct work as I have very horizontal conventional form which I’m no longer getting the stimulus from.

Apologies for the long winded questions, I am trying to be direct without posting to much detail about your template specifics.
