I’m coming up on week 5 of Bridge 1.0 but my gym only has elliptical machines and treadmills. I’ve been doing LISS on the treadmill, but I get the sense that HIIT on a treadmill isn’t very commonly done. Is it ok to do treadmill sprints, and if not, why? And what are some possible alternatives?
It’s fine if you can sprint on the treadmill, but many treadmills won’t go fast enough if you can sprint well. That being said, we’d recommend a gradual introduction to sprinting over a series of weeks , as most people are not well-prepared for sprinting. Here’s an example:
Week 1: sprints @ 70% max effort
Week 2: sprints @ 80% max effort
Week 3: sprints @ 80% max effort
Week 4: sprints @ 90% max effort
Week 5: sprints @ 90% max effort
Week 6: HIIT as rx’d
