Knee pain on descent?

Hey guys, so i keep reading andnlisteningntobyournstuff. Super grateful foer all the tips and programing! My family seems to be ok with just asking me what you guys think about stuff.lol

My wife is 38 mother of four, 5 ft6, 126 lbs.

She was doing starting strength l.p. squated 165 3x 5 deadlifted 185 but had to stop after hip and knee pain got really bad.

Lightened weight but probably not enough.
Also kept low bar squat instead of switching to alt. Squat

Did Arrosti (uber painful massage) to feel better. “Felt” better but eventually had to stop squats all together. Got an MRI, showed bursitis in hip. Arrosti guy said tight it band for knee pain.

got some therapy exercises for hip and it band. hip feels pretty good, Training not affecting it more or less at the moment.
The knee pain is right side only, only on the descent, and only for the 1st and 2nd rep of each set. Starts at 95 lbs but is fine below that.

I’m assuming start below 95 and progress from there? But does the descent pain “mean” something in regards to form? Sorry just trying to get ahead of this thing before it gets really bad and she has to stop again.
Thanks

Yes, start below that and progress from there, as we describe here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdwj5ORPmX0

I would probably start by increasing the reps per set and using a tempo component (e.g., 3-0-0 or 3-0-3).

The symptoms do not necessarily mean anything with respect to form. This is most likely a load-related issue.

Thanks Austin! Will do!
