Knee rehab template question

I apologize in advance if this has been asked, I couldn’t find it. Or if it’s in the instruction manual and I missed it there.

Using the knee rehab template for left knee pain around the patella. FWIW only diagnosis if you can even call it that is patella alto. Anyway, question about when I’m picking and performing the exercises.

I know from pt after my shoulder surgery that while rehabbing I should not expect everything to be pain/discomfort free, that a joint being sore after training it is not necessarily a problem. That part of the point of rehab is teaching your brain/cons that a certain ROM is ok, safe, so it stops guarding as much. I get all that.

Having said that. Is the intent of the exercise selection in the template, especially early on, to pick the movements that cause no pain/discomfort?

For example the one leg squat to a high box- too much right now. Whereas single leg leg press, provided it’s slow enough, light enough and the foot is placed just so, is ok. Single leg extensions gets me maybe a 1/10 pain, where bodyweight split squat does not.

Am I better off doing only the movements that have zero discomfort or is part of the goal to push just a little into discomfort to train that perceived threat level?

anyway thanks in advance, apologies if this makes no sense at all.

I think it’s reasonable to start out on day 1 with the movements that cause much less / no discomfort, to ensure you’re below the tolerable symptom threshold, and then gradually “poke into” more sensitive movements and monitoring how you respond over time.

Great, thank you, I had had to pause from increased pain, I’ll restart it fresh with the no/low pain ones
