Hello, from 2017-2018 I ran starting strength and finished with around squat 170kg 3 x5, deadlift 200kgx5, bench 100kg x 5, ohp 60x 5. Over the last year however, my strength has progressively decreased (due to little injuries, 2 cuts, and time off here and there). I was recently running the bridge but took 2 weeks off to finish my masters dissertations. I’ve come back to the gym today and my max lifts are roughly squat 140kgx5, deadlift 160kgx5, bench 80kg x5, ohp 45kg x5. As you can imagine it is rather depressing but my question is:
Would it be better to re-run starting strength and get my strength back that way or just continue with The Bridge (even with these weak ass lifts)? Thanks!
We do not recommend people do SS LP, as it has a number of drawbacks that make it incompatible with an intelligent long-term strength and conditioning plan. You can re-run the bridge or move on to one of our templates. We would recommend finding something you can do that you do not have to take breaks from, as consistency is the name of the game here.
It’s helpful to remember that we all start from different places, and someone else might have some regression from THEIR lifts, and that really doesn’t mean anything about you, right? :-). If you were looking at a 20% change, you might be eager to see that gap recovered too.
Yep I was being jokey jokerton, surprised you even approved it. “That being said” (another joke) I was there right along with the OP, while stuck in the SS feedback loop; getting hurt coming back close to before…oops! hurt again. So thanks to youse guys I am almost 60 and cruising along ok.
