Lifting with a shoulder injury/surgery prep

Hey yall!

Hoping to get some advice on how to approach an upcoming shoulder surgery.

So back in November ‘25 I was lifting when I felt my left shoulder kind of “grinding” a bit. The next day I had pretty significant pain, went to my PCM and got a PT referral. Did a mix of in person and at home PT for a few months with resolution of most of the pain but not all. Got an MRI last month and I have a posterior and inferior 180deg labral tear, with subluxation of the humeral head and glenoid hypoplasia. I met with an Orthopedist who recommended surgery, but due to scheduling on my end I’m not going to be able to have it done until Nov/Dec.

My question: How do I best prepare myself for the surgery, and how do I best recover from the surgery? I don’t want this to be something that limits me physically in the long run.

Right now the only exercise that aggravates the shoulder reliably are pushups, after high reps. I tolerate bench, and really everything else pretty well. I’m working my way through Titan I with good results.

Would love to hear your thoughts, thanks!
