Lower back pain problem

Hi Docs,

I had lower back pains in the past many times, and they were all sorted by applying what I’ve learnt from BBM. And usually, the pain went away after no more than 14 days (back to squat 2 x my BW pain free for example). Those times, the pain often started as sharp and sudden pain.

However, this time, it’s a bit different. I started to have my lower back pain during as a dull pain rather than an acute one the 9th April 2025. I then applied everything I’ve learnt from BBM (as I had been successfully done them in the past), moving around, air deadlift/squat etc.. and still maintaining my training with tolerable loads. The pain during training (Squat and Deadlift) is often at 1-2/10, and I always feel good/pain free after training. Yet, the next day, I got very stiff back. The stiffness never stopped me when it comes to daily activities, I can touch my toes painfree. Even with the most painful position (such as rounded my back when sitting on the desk, or knees touching my chest), the pain is 6/10 at most. The issue is, it has lasted for almost a month, and I’m not sure if I should be worried, or I should still keep doing what I have been doing?

I will have my meet in several months and it would be such a bum if I have to stop training Squat and Deadlift just because of it.

Thank you and have a good week.

I think if you’re always/mostly always having soreness/stiffness out of proportion to your training, that would concern me about the training dose being too high for what you can currently tolerate.

If true, I’d consider adding variety and reducing average intensity for a period, as it doesn’t seem like this has been directly addressed just yet. I don’t think you need to stop squatting and deadlifting, though reducing the average intensity may be helpful.
