Missed Week of Program

Hi all,

I’m looking to start the Beginner Program (2nd Gen) this week but I go away on holiday on July 31st. There’s no gym there so no chance of training. At that point, I’ll have completed only 13 weeks of the 15 the program entails.

Would I be best to continue with Week 14 when I’m back or repeat Week 13?

Hey Dan,

Nice job starting the program this week. That’s huge! Looking ahead, I think having some flexibility around training is the right move. The Beginner Program has multiple blocks, each building upon the one prior. The block lengths aren’t finite however, and we give people the option to continue to run each block for as long as they’re working (still able to add weight to the bar). We also give people the option to just follow the calendar more rigidly, since stretching out a block for a few weeks isn’t make or break at this stage of the game.

Whether you start back with week 14 or 13 is relatively inconsequential and somewhat unknown. You may have stretched out the first block for example, and find your vacation comes up at a perfect time where you were going to switch to the next block anyway. Sometimes life and training line up perfectly that way!

Barring that, my advice is to go to the nearest deload week and use that to ease back into training after the holiday.
