Modified Texas Method or HLM?

Jordan,

I know that you don’t recommend the Texas Method. However, do you think it would be tolerable to run it post NLP if I made some of the adjustments here: 12 Ways To Skin The Texas Method | Barbell Medicine? The main reason I would like to run it is because there are so many free resources online (eg Paul Horns “The Texas Method: Making it work for you”) teaching you how to run it and adjust variables. I want to look into buying some of your templates in the future, but for a student who is currently tight on money, a program that comes with a lot of free instructional resources online is very valuable to me now. If not, would a generalized HLM program online be preferable? Those are essentially the 2 program pathways I am looking at right now. Again, I am just looking for free programming resources to train with now, with the mindset that eventually I will invest more money into training resources like your stuff.

Thanks!
Rafa

Rafa,

I would run the free bridge before any one of those Texas Method programs. That said, you could do a number of programs and be fine. We also offer free 1-week samples of all of our templates if you want to tweak one of those. I do not think HLM or Texas Method are great programs, but there are certainly worse options.

Got it. Could the free bridge could be repeated a few times? I am planning to get a some BBM templates in May for my birthday, but until then I need some training material. Thanks!

You could theoretically, yes, but it’s not really built for that. I’m trying to be as helpful as I can and I don’t want to lead you astray. I do think you could run any number of programs that have varied exercises and rep schemes, autoregulation, enough conditioning to meed/exceed the guidelines. Making sure that the program suits you now and 4-5 months from now is more challenging, especially when limited to free programs only.

My recommendation would be to run the bridge and the either the 3-day version of gen s/c II or PB-I given your history and goals.

What are your thoughts on RTS’ Free Generalized Intermediate Template (The RTS Generalized Intermediate Program – Reactive Training Systems)? I understand RTS has had a significant influence on you and BBM so I assume the best about their stuff. I’m thinking of running the Bridge than this free template which will take me up to my birthday in May, when I’ll then have the opportunity to get PB1 or Gen SC II. Thanks!

I’m not familiar with that template, though I have a great deal of respect and admiration for Mike and what’s he done for both me personally and the community.

You have my recommendations for a template, e.g. the Bridge, and I think you should start there.
