Overeating protocol

Hello docs,

Apologies in advance if this has been covered elsewhere - was unable to find a record of it. If one were to eat an excessive amount of calories proportional to their daily planned intake is there any recommendation to modify behavior the rest of the day/next day?

For background: Just got done with a particularly grueling cut to 176lbs at 6’ and trying to gain 1-1.5 pounds a month before maintaining at 185 or so. Trying to avoid another cut for quite a while. On the cut I tracked every calorie, but now mostly eyeball it and eat the same things every day and have been doing well according to daily weight tracking. I had an unexpected work luncheon today where I went way overboard. I can’t not eat the rest of day so I was on the fence about doing some extra cardio to compensate as I have deadlifts on Hypertrophy I tomorrow. I know you can’t cardio your way out of a bad diet, but I feel it would humor me at least. Or is it best to ignore this and stay the course going forward?

TLDR; If overeating occurs is additional movement warranted or stay the course?

Thanks

Yes, just get back to your normal health-promoting dietary pattern int he same amounts as you would consume if you hadn’t overeaten. If this is happening frequently, that probably deserves some attention and changes to your approach. Otherwise, no extra cardio or restriction in Calories in response. That would make things worse from an adherence standpoint.
