So I had a part of my toenail removed, due to an infection, caused by overgrown (more precisely wrong way grown) toe skin . As a result of the procedure, I’m left with a draining hole.
My question is, is it safe to squat while the opening is still draining ?
I’m not sure. Were you instructed to not wear a shoe? Is there packing you’re supposed to be changing regularly?
The doctor instructed me not wear shoes (this was during July-August), and I visited her office three times per week (Mon, Wed, Fri) ,for bandage change. The bandage was applied after cleaning the nail sulcus with povidone iodine, and then applying antibiotic spray and zinc ointment. After the swelling went down, I was instructed to do salt water baths at home, and to make an appointment for a pedicure.
I had the pedicure last Monday, but because of a schedule mix up, it was with one of the girl that does pedicures, and not with the studio podiatrist* . However the podiatrist came in just to cut the afflicted big toe, put some drops on it (have no idea what it was), and an adhesive tape. She instructed me to remove the tape after 24 hours, see her in ten days, and then she ran back to her scheduled clients. The pedicure girl told me to just keep the toe opened, but wasn’t really sure in giving other instructions . After I removed the tape, there was puss and oozing blood, so I followed online instructions and continued with salt water baths and dry dressing. The drainage is getting smaller by the day, but the wound is still open.
Since July I am wearing shoes only when lifting ( loose fitting Vans), and doing mainly upper body lifts, and rarely leg machine exercises.
- Don’t know if she’s a podiatrist, or have some certificate which allows her to do medical pedicure.
Prior to July, were you training? If so, you can probably return to training as long as you’ve been cleared to walk and wear shoes. If you weren’t training then, well…that may change my recommendation.
