Post surgical recovery training

Hey, Docs. I’m scheduled to have a two level cervical disc replacement/arthroplasty next Wednesday to finally (hopefully) relieve my compressed nerve. My surgeon told me I should expect to be out of the gym for three months and to avoid strenuous activity in general. I know the stock recommendation for people coming back from a layoff with an already established training history would be to start the Beginner template from block II. My question is, with a layoff so protracted and in the wake of spinal surgery, would that still be your recommendation in this case?

Barring any extenuating circumstances, I think starting from Block I or II on the Beginner Template with exercises adjusted to an individual’s needs, resources, and preferences, is a fine move.
