Long-winded question incoming, so apologies in advance. I started running powerlifting II (second time) in early Jan, and was hoping to stretch the development block through Feb as I’ll be gone for a week-long ski trip first week of March and was going to use that as an opportunity to go into the deload week. Over the last week or so I’ve felt like the weight per set has stalled (trying to stay within prescribed RPEs), culminating with an absolute trash session today where I had dropped my target RPE 9 comp bench set down to last week’s RPE 8 set and barely got the reps out. A friend of mine works with Hassan, and he said don’t focus on the weights and just focus on getting the programmed RPEs / volume right so you’re getting the work in, which is how I approached the rest of the session.
With that context, would you recommend I go straight to deload now, or perhaps take an extra rest day and then see how I perform next session? Thanks a bunch!
