Protein powder vs food

Hi BBM team,
my question: is protein the same regardless if it’s from food or powder form ?
so for example if I got all my protein from powder and not food would it be exactly the same if I got it from just food.

im not super clued up on nutrition I basically count my calories and get 1g per pound of body weight but do not worry about fat or carbs I feel this is easier for me I will try and increase protein intake to 1.5g.
I have made fairly good success doing it this way so far.

the reason for my question is basically trying to settle a debate I’m having with someone who believes protein powder is not a great way to get protein intake as I have 2 protein shakes a day so about 60g of my protein intake is from powder.

Thanks in advance.

Can you restate your question more specifically?

Yeah of course sorry.

basically I just wanted to know is protein the same and effects of protein the same regardless if it’s from a food source or in powder form?

In general, yes.

Thanks Jordan

i mentioned earlier that what I basically do for nutrition is I know my maintenance calories for my current BW and I’m slowly starting to increase it.

but my general nutrition is just counting calories and protein 1g per pound of BW now should I be paying more attention to other things like sugar fat carbs etc ? I use my fitness pal and the nutrition tab on your templates.

i currently do it the most basic way because it’s easier for me this way due to job, life etc…

It depends what you’re trying to do. If you’re maintaining your body weight and that’s what you want to do, that’s cool. I think that losing or gaining weight both probably benefit from paying attention to fiber, carbohydrates, and fat intake.

Maybe a little off topic, but I remember reading a book a few years ago about a guy that followed part of the Lewis + Clark trail through the Rockies. The trek took a months or so as I recall, and he went into a reasonable description of how he planned his food. He planned to be completely alone and not pass any towns…so he was isolated and carried his own food on his back. He knew he couldn’t just let his body atrophy as hiking through mountain ranges (sometimes snow covered), with all his gear on his back, would require him to get stronger. I think he had something like a ~75lb backpack…his diet was Oats, Protein Powder, Dried Fruits/nuts and Jerky. He had no shortage of water, and he did take a fishing line, although I think he only caught 1 or 2. That food combo gave him best bang for buck relative to size, weight, and nutritional impact.
