Hello! Ive been running PB1, and i got sick at week 9. My last workout was on monday, june 5th. I got what felt like a very bad cold, which doctor said may have been a rebound illness as i was sick 4 weeks before for a couple weeks aswell, but not as bad so i only missed 5 days of training back then.
i had a very bad week of symptoms and im still kinda stuffy blowing my nose to this day, 12 days ish later. I returned to the gym and did 5@6 5@7 5@8 with squat bench and deadlift just to get a feel again on friday the 16th. That felt like shit, weak, and almost wheezing just after doing a set @7. Now on monday, my workout is going just as bad actually, considerably weaker ~25% off the bar on squats for sure but less other movements, still hard time breathing even between sets, even though i thought i was better.
is this to be expected?
has my fitness level dropped that badly?
Sounds like you’re still a bit sick and have not been exercising for a couple weeks. It’s likely your fitness levels are pretty much the same, but your performance levels are down due to the illness.
I wouldn’t expect to perform as well as I did before after an illness and two weeks of not training, but I do expect it to return quickly. I would continue to train on a program as best as you can, ideally without missing training.
Thanks jordan. Since i was on week 9, i figured i would go ahead and start on week 1 again since i was planning to re-run PB1 again anyway, and the volume would start a bit lower too. I dont like to miss sessions but i go to a public gym so for as long as i was feeling very bad i didn’t go unfortunately!
