Good Morning,
I’ve recently started the Body Building 1 Gen 2. Starting Block 1 Week 4 today. However I’ve done more conditioning than the program calls for because I’ve kept up what I have previously been doing.
I do Days 1,2, & 3 lifting on Mon,Wed,Fri.
On Tuesdays and Thursday I do about 45min Liss RPE 5. And then 35min RPE5 on Saturday and 50min RPE 3-4 on Sunday.
However towards the last 5min of those 45-50 min days a bit of my calves but mostly in the shins I feel cramping. And mostly my shins are constantly tender even when not training just going through my typical day. Almost like they could charlie horse at any time.
I was going to start following the prescribed conditioning in the template once it starts getting into the 5 conditiong days and incorporating the HIIT. However I was wondering currently due to the shin cramping, would it be better to reduce the intensity or the length of the session?
Brian.
Hey Brian,
I’m wondering how much running, if any, you’re doing? How about plyometrics/jumping? And then when you row, how much are you using your feet to “pull” yourself back from extension?
If you’re doing all of your conditioning on the rower, I’d advise against that and try to do a wider variety of exercises, if possible. I also wonder if the rowing technique may need to be adjusted. I don’t think reducing intensity is the solution here vs. changing the training mode.

Jordan,
I actually do all my conditioning via the rower. I have not done plyometrics/jumping. I used to run but have not in a long time. Not sure about the use of my feet answer. I’ll have to pay more attention to that.
I do have a Titan Hi-Low Push/Pull sled I sometimes use in the spring/summer months if you think I should incorporate that or running.
Brian
Like with lifting, I prefer a wide variety of different types of conditioning unless there’s a reason to specify. That said, I don’t know if this is an overuse thing (too much rowing for current preparation), a technique thing (too aggressive ankle flexion leading to a pump), or something else.
@Jordan_Feigenbaum
Is there a plyometrics/box jumping routine you could suggest? Would this be done for the HIIT sessions in the BB1 Gen2 Template?
Thanks,
Brian
