I have barbells, a half rack with a pull up bar and landmine attachment, as well as dumbells. I don’t have a rowing machine. What would you suggest as an alternative to the rowing machine when a template calls for GPP Rowing HIIT with the equipment that I have? On a side note, the same GPP days already list Pullups AMRAP, so they probably wouldn’t be a good alternative. Thanks.
Hey Ken,
Welcome to the forum. Thanks for joining
In the situation where someone doesn’t have access to traditional conditioning equipment, e.g. rower, bike, ski erg, treadmill, a pool, etc., I’d recommend running outside, if possible. For those who aren’t experienced runners, I would avoid sprints and limit pacing to zones 1 and 2 for longer durations.
I do not routinely replace conditioning work (at any intensity) with resistance training, as I suspect the physiological limiters and subsequent adaptations are going to be different. I do program barbell complexes (e.g. Javorek complexes), circuits, and so on at times. I don’t think these generate the same response as intended from high intensity interval training (HIIT) or moderate intensity continuous training (MICT).
Hi Jordan,
Thank you, I appreciate your response. I currently run outside anyway, so that’s actually good news, and an easy substitution.
Ken
I don’t suppose you could elaborate more about this? When might you program them? How often? Would you use them as a replacement or supplement?
