Hi, I’m a few workouts into The Bridge and have just signed up for a local meet here in Bristol, UK in about 16 weeks on the 3rd June
I’m pondering what I should do training wise after this first run through The Bridge as although I’d like to put up decent numbers on the day, I’m certainly not going to be in contention for placing well in my weight class and my number one priority is long term strength development.
Before I found out about the meet, my plan was to probably repeat the Bridge, assuming it went well the first time, possibly doing Bridge 2.0 the 2nd time round.
Now I am not so sure as although there are some moderately heavy singles and lower rep ranges in the latter stages of the Bridge, I would still be going into the meet without having ‘peaked’ as such.
A bit of potentially pertinent information about me:
6’1"
100kg (220lbs)
I’ve previously done 1 meet, last year, before I had done the SSLP and totalled 500kg (190/100/210) so I’d like to beat that by some way, perhaps 200/115/227.5 (500lb deadlift!)
I finished SSLP last week on:
Squat: 160x5x3 (352lb)
Bench: 93.5x5x3 (206lb)
Press: 61x5x3 (135lb)
Deadlift: 180x5x1 (396lb)
Do you have any advice about how I could go into the meet feeling relatively prepared while avoiding detraining too much? Or are the two things mutually exclusive?
