SIJ Dysfunction and Innominate Movement

All,

My functional anatomy professor has recently lectured on the hip/sacrum. Part of her lecture was discussing in depth SIJ/Innominate movements in regard to symptomatic hip/low back patients. My classmate and I are very skeptical especially when she began explaining tight muscles and imbalances can cause these dysfunctions. I feel like how would you discern this from simply nonspecific LBP? Are minuet differences in bony landmarks enough to justify the diagnosis, especially with what we know of msk abnormalities in asymptomatic people? I’m curious what another experienced clinician’s opinion is on this, and if there are any relevant articles I could reference for more information.

@hlsmith03 - overall we would disagree with that line of thinking and rationalization to explain low back pain. Derek wrote an excellent piece on this topic: https://thelogicofrehab.com/2018/07/…ously-stop-it/
