Squat and pain

Hello
I am simply wondering if one can actually hurt his ribs when squatting
On a max-test I felt a sharp pain (on the side of my thoracic cage above from where the belt is ) when trying to push back up
It was yesterday and when touching it and when breathing deeply it really hurts

I dont know if I am being soft and forget about it or treat it

Thank you for everything you guys do
It is greatly appreciated

Is it from the belt? If it is mabye lower the belt or get a softer belt

Sure, you can tweak something while squatting - neither I nor you know if it was actually a rib, but yes, these things happen. Might be related to your belt positioning.

Possibly costochondritis? I did something similar when deadlifting years ago. Poor bracing before pulling, heard and felt a pop. Pretty severe pain but it cleared up completely in a couple weeks.

I went to see a doctor that diagnosed an intercostal strain, it hurts when benching and squatting which is fine what i want to know is: is the diagnosis possible? Am i likely to make it worse by training on it

Well, intercostal strain is an ICD-10 code, so sure I suppose it is a possible diagnosis.

I don’t think you’re making it worse by training on it, but I also haven’t evaluated you.

Sorry I may be stupid but I tried googling it and didn’t understand so im gonna ask
Whats an ICD 10 code

I can tell you that I have personally strained a muscle in my back, that I’m pretty sure was the intercostal. It hurt in between the ribs. It hurt more with deep breaths. I could also feel the pain travel around from back to front in between my ribs. Although that could’ve just been my somatomotor cortex getting screwed up on the localization of the pain.
