If the low bar squat, high bar squat, SSB etc all have the same outcome for quad development then why have variants in the templates? If a person tolerates and prefers low bar is there any benefit to performing variations of the squat? I ask because of the pervasive myth that low bar is inferior to high bar for quad growth and I’m primarily concerned with hypertrophy right now. I posted before regarding discomfort with high bar and have implemented kind of a mid bar as you suggested which is working great.
thanks!
I think a better way of phrasing the relationship between outcomes and squat styles is that we do not predict there to be significant differences between styles with respect to hypertrophy or “general” strength, though individuals will vary in their response and preference.
In addition to providing choices for individuals based on the above, we also predict that greater movement variation improves motor learning and reduces risk of injury risk. We think this is superior to telling people to do do a single style of squat.
