Hey BBM Team,
I have kind of fun hypothetical question for any of the coaches who want to weigh in here..
If in an alternate universe right now. You somehow lost all your muscle and strength and went right back to complete beginner status as a lifter..
How would you train to get yourself back to your current physique and strength?
Pretend you are starting all over again but still possess your current knowledge base.. what’s the process look like!
Cheers
We might have different definitions of fun
My path would be grossly similar to what I did previously, and nearly identical to what we recommend to people at large: find training you like, consistently iterate on it to generate demonstrable results, and do as much of it as you can.
It would look a lot like our Beginner Template to start, followed by strength 1 or powerbuilding 1, then progressing through those tracts. Those look a lot like refined versions of my programming over the years.
Perhaps a more interesting question is what would I have done differently over the years. With the benefit of hindsight, a few things stand out:
- Would have not run any version of the Texas Method or 5/3/1 and gotten to RPE earlier
- Would not have pivoted to CrossFit for a spell, but instead, I should’ve gotten more into cycling/trail running
- Should have moved up to 198 earlier instead of wasting three meets (and 2 years) cutting back down to 181
I think those are the biggest things that stand out.

Sweet that makes sense. Under what circumstances would you reccomend the 8 week Bridge program to anyone?
Are you at a point now where the beginner templates pretty much have replaced it? Or like as long as someone has done your beginner program there is no need for the bridge? Go right into strength 1 or powerbuilding 1?
I think The Bridge is indicated for the same population it was originally designed for: people coming off of Starting Strength’s Novice LP. It’s great for that, especially if people want a free resource.
It was never really designed to interact with our program ecosystem, but mostly to “bridge” people towards better programming.
