Supplemental Exercises in Hypertrophy 1 - are they substitutes?

I just purchases Hypertrophy 1.

Are the supplemental exercises intended to be substitute exercises or additional exercises?

For example, Week 1 Day 1 has leg extensions listed as a supplemental exercise. I’m assuming this means if you can’t do high bar squats for either physical or equipment reasons, then you recommend leg extensions or leg curs as a possible substitute.

Those movements are in addition to the prior 3 movements, so this template has 4 movements a day. The exercise variations come from the exercise selection tab itself when you want to change the options.

Since their are 4 programmed movements, why not just name the 4th movement “exercise 4” vs “supplemental.”
