TFL Pain

It pisses me off to have to post this because I’ve watched podcast episode 19 and 20 more than once. I have had what I think is pain in the TFL area for about 4-5 weeks. Thought it was just lower back until I got on the lacrosse ball and found some serious tender spots in the area, shall we call them trigger points, with referred pain in back and glute. I am able to train through this but the pain following the workout for the next few days is ridiculous. It never really goes away. It hurts when sitting the most, and unfortunately I sit at a desk most of the day. Deadlifts seem to bring about the most pain in the following days. I have been following the customary prescription, but I’m not really seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and this sucks. I need some direction here please.

I am 53 years old. I am on week 7 of the 12 Week Program which I modified to a 3 week program as suggested. This is also my first RPE based program.

I’m not sure what you mean by “the TFL area”, if you initially thought it was lower back. Is your pain over the lateral hip?

Have you ever gotten your form checked?

Are you overshooting your RPEs?

Hi Austin I am referring to tensor fasciae latae. Yes, it is over the lateral hip.

I have never gotten my form checked but I have been taking video of my training over the last month.

It is totally possible I am overshooting RPE by perhaps 1 on occasion.

Before starting the 12 Week Program, I had been running Andy Baker’s HLM programs. The most recent was Garage Gym Warrior. I did notice that BBM programs have more pulling volume. How do I get more information about becoming a client for on-line coaching? The pain and soreness following training has really begun to take some of the fun out of this for me.
