Time off/Maintenance Routine?

Finishing up the 12 week Press template in three weeks. (Noverber 3rd). I want to move onto a hypertrophy block since I’ve done pure strength for the past two years. BUT I have an issue. We are due to welcome our second child around the end of November, so right in the middle of a hypertrophy block. What would your recommendations be to train maybe 3 days a week to maintain any of the gains in strength I’ve made? I probably won’t get into a consistent schedule again until probably late December early January since my training days/times will be random.

Congrats! You can certainly use the 3 day hypertrophy template and continue to make progress. You will still use RPE, so if your life circumstances add additional stress or take away from your recovery, you’ll use that information to adjust the bar weight. If you can continue to train, even if it’s at random times, sometimes back to back days, at times shorter sessions, and sometimes under-slept, you’ll still be doing well.

I have found the hypertrophy template is considerably less demanding. Workouts don’t take nearly as long as strength templates… I’ve felt much less wrecked on hypertrophy than the strength templates while making similar progress.

That’s great!

Coming off of the 12 week press template. Watching your latest video and learned about the peaking templates. Any utility in running through one of these after the 12 week template then hitting your hypertrophy template?

The only reason to go through a peak is if you plan to test your 1RMs, either in a “mock meet” type setup or for actual competition.
