Training Frequency

Hey,

I really enjoying training full body (1 exercise for chest/shoulders, back and legs) every other day. People have said that in order to prevent aches and pains as well as accelerating progress that I’d be better off having more time between hitting the same muscle groups in order for the muscles and joints to “heal”.

I don’t really believe this to be true, especially if total volume and intensity is the same, but I wanted to know your take on whether it’s beneficial from an overuse injury standpoint and progression to do all the work in one day, for example, and then allow 7 days for recovery?

Thanks

CT

We would not assume this to be a beneficial programming strategy in general.

However, over time all programming should be individualized to the person’s abilities, tolerance, limitations, and goals. In this way, some people may find that they tolerate/progress better on that kind of a setup compared with others – but there is no way to predict this outside of trial and error, as needed.
