Training While Sick

Hey Drs.,

I apologize if this is a double post (I thought I had made a post related to this a couple of weeks ago but then never saw anything post and no record of it on my end).

In the past, I have avoided training while sick, not because I am worried being sick will affect my training necessarily, but that training my negatively impact my recovery from a cold or whatever.

Both of you seem to train through most everything, so I believe I am missing something, or at the very least, my conceptualization of my recovery from sickness is wrong. Can you help me overcome this mental hurdle?

Many thanks!

I’m not sure what you’re specifically looking for here.

We think that in general, that the benefits of training (autoregulated, e.g. using RPE) outweigh the risks in the setting of a typical mild illness, when compared to not training.
