For older people, or people that do not plan on competing is it worthwhile doing the maximums - the realization weeks in the strength templates? Would I/they be better served to repeat Sports Form weeks?
I must admit I am curious to see how I would do, but since I’m not competing and my ego doesn’t need to know is it worth the stress?
What do you mean by “worth the stress”? It’s typically less training stress than you’ve been exposed to earlier in the programs. And, by the time it comes around, you’ve been reasonably well-exposed to performing singles, so we like doing those weeks as written. Of course, you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. You could just “test” a 1 @ 9, a 1 @ 8, or just skip them altogether if that’s your preference.
It should also be noted that we don’t like categorizing people into “special populations” each requiring unique approaches based on their demographic or identity, but rather view all trainees along a spectrum to help make individualized decisions. A 40 year old person is not “old”.
