48hrs Rest Between Training

Howdy.

I have been curious about this for a while. When I first touched a weight in high school, one of the rules of thumb that coaches and peers would preach is that you have to have 48 hrs of rest between training of the same muscle group / movement. Is there any truth to this with regards to optimizing hypertrophy and/or strength?

I know that BBM templates don’t adhere to this belief, and I’m guessing it’s more of a myth, but I wanted to ask.

Thank you!

Nope, it’s 100% made-up.

Honest question: Then why do many of your templates “recommend keeping the lifting days non-consecutive when possible”.

On our 3-day templates we recommend training on non-consecutive days to spread the training stress throughout the week and create room for the conditioning. We train the same muscle groups back-to-back in our 4-day templates.
