I don’t know why but whenever I do leg training( squat deadlift, leg press) at rpe 7ish or higher I get an adverse reaction where my throat gets congested and I feel like I would normally feel like the day before I get sick for a few days if not a week or two after the training session. I can do Calves raises, Nordic hamstring curls, and run without a problem. I am not sure what to do in this situation? Currently I am just avoiding these movements so I don’t have these adverse effect but I feel this is not a good long-term solution.
Sorry to hear about this. I’m not quite sure what’s going on here. General allergy-type symptoms are quite common and can feel similar to what you describe, but are not provoked in an exercise-dependent manner.
Unfortunately I can’t think of a plausible explanation/reason for why or how this would happen specifically related to leg training but not any other exercise/context.
I guess I’ll try and antihistamine next time I feel this way. Also, I have found that if I do train legs hard for an extended period of time i have to stop training leg because I start developing a cough due to excessive congestion in my throat. Just wanted to add this last bit just in case it was helpful to you in discerning what is going on.
