Hey, im 17/220lb/6ft and have a medical history of atopic Dermatitis and was curious how this would affect my grip as it pertains to the deadlift. Today I was on week 12 of 12 week strength and on my 1@8(335lb) i tore a part of my palm that affected the rest of my training and was wondering if this was directly correlated to my eczema. Additionally, I was wondering how to deal with this issue of it were to occur again. Thanks for the help.
Do you actually have hand eczema? Or does your eczema primarily involve other parts of your body? How is it treated?
Primarily other parts of my body, though there are still slight amounts on the back of my hand and in between my fingers. My eczema is being treated through the use of topical corticosteroids main cream being desonide 0.05%.
I see. It doesn’t sound like you have much palmar involvement of your eczema, in which case I wouldn’t chalk up the skin tear during training to your eczema either. Tearing the skin of the palms, particularly when deadlifting on a sharply knurled bar, is very common and happens all the time even among those without any sort of skin condition.
Thank you for your help Austin I really appreciate it. I’ll look in to using a different bar the next time I deadlift.
