Bodybuilding II Questions

Hi coaches,

I have run many powerlifting templates but really am enjoying BB II now.

  1. On the day 2 of the Block II, should Chest-Supported Row and Standing Press be performed with dumbbell or barbell? I know you wouldn’t mind but curious which is your origin purpose for the first run. Just wanted to check because dumbbell chest-supported row for 6 reps seems very low reps ever seen.

  2. I used to enjoy Barbell OHP but liking dumbbell press as the BB II template goes. Dumbbell OHP feels easier with my shoulder pain. Will there be much difference or downside if I ditch Barbell OHP for the long time like for years?

  3. In your rehab articles, higher reps are recommended for lighter weight. So I stayed in the block I. It’s been about 12 weeks but still progressing. Do you recommend moving on to the block II or staying as long as progress goes on?

Thanks always!

Happy to hear you’re enjoying it. For your questions:

  1. Chest-supported row is typically going to be a machine-based exercise, e.g. chest-supported hammer strength row or t-bar row. One could do a seal row with barbells or dumbbells. People do heavy chins all the time for low reps, so why not rows? My preference for the standing press is to use a barbell, as cleaning dumbbells up into a position to press can be challenging.

  2. I think they’re mostly the same. I’d do DB press seated though.

  3. If your shoulder symptoms are resolved on the current plan, I would move onto the next block.
