Hip pain in sumo pulls

Hey guys I’ll keep this short.

So for 3 weeks I have been pulling sumo twice a week. Recently made the switch from conventional because I can pull a good deal more sumo.

Lately I have been experiencing some “pain/discomfort” in my left hip/groin area at the top/lock out portion of the pull.

I don’t know what’s causing it. I’ve never had issues with sumo before and I’ve played around with my stance a bit but I can’t quite figure out what I’m doing, if anything to cause it from how I’m pulling.
Could just be I’m getting used to the switch/ volume and my left hip is just being a baby while my right is ready to go.
I filmed for my coach I can post. If you guys need to see any videos of my pulls.

Hopefully you guys can help me trouble shoot what’s going on, I really like pulling sumo and don’t want to ditch it unless I have to.

Thanks and let me know if you need anymore information that will help out with trouble shooting.

It sounds like you: 1) used to pull conventional, 2) found that you can pull more sumo, 3) switched to two sessions per week of sumo pulling, then 4) developed hip pain.

This is probably related to the sudden change in training stress on your hips. I would probably have had you just swap one of your two pulling sessions to sumo, and keep the other one conventional for a while. In fact, that’s probably what I’d recommend you do now, as well as finding a loading threshold where the pain w/ sumo is not exacerbated during training.

Thanks Austin
